Description:

Western Asia, Persia or Iran, Qajar Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A fine ceramic tile depicting an elaborate scene of 3 figures in paradise, delineated in black and enveloped in a vibrant turquoise glaze. Densely decorated in scrolling arabesque and vegetal motifs, the panel shows one woman lying to the right side as she plays an oud while the other female serves as the Saghi or wine pourer, as she holds a wine bottle in one hand and a cup in the other. A male figure stands between them, dressed in ornate robes and a turban as he also grasps a wine cup. Each figure gazes at another, containing them within the scene and creating a visual love triangle. Their heads are crowned by haloes which denotes their location in paradise. Size: 10.4" L x 0.8" W x 10.4" H (26.4 cm x 2 cm x 26.4 cm)
