Russia, ca. late 19th century CE. A brass rendering of Jesus on the Cross, w/ the figure of Christ, the skull and crossbones below his feet representing Golgotha (Place of the Skull), the banner reading INRI (Latin for ''Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum'' meaning ''Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews'') and the tripod pedestal cast separately and affixed to the cross. The cross' arms feature openwork termini resembling flames or floral/leaf motifs; behind Christ's head are incised circles perhaps to represent the Crown of Thorns. Size: 5" W x 9.875" H (12.7 cm x 25.1 cm)
