Description:

Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. Finely painted in egg tempera on gesso on wood, an icon of 2 haloed saints standing beneath the Holy Father, who blesses them from the clouds above. Draped in long robes and flowing capes, both figures face inward and extend forth one hand. The bearded figure on the left holds a patriarchal cross, implying he may be an ecclesiastic, while the saint on the right grasps a palm leaf, suggesting he is a martyr. A word in Cyrillic is inscribed in the upper right corner. Size: 14.8" W x 12.2" H (37.6 cm x 31 cm)
