South Pacific, Samoa, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A gorgeous carved-wood Samoan Fa'alautalinga or club displaying a long cylindrical handle that flattens and spreads out to a paddle-like head. Featuring a smoothly carved surface in a hue of dark brown, the head of this weapon is intricately incised with an abstract pattern of triangles separated by a central oval and filled with a zigzag motif. Alternatively, the other end is carved in a design of a central zigzag column surrounded by several horizontal bands. A rounded finial is showcased at its base. Size: 4.75" W x 18.5" H (12.1 cm x 47 cm); 20.125" H (51.1 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Collection label on side and on stand. A few miniscule nicks to both sides of the head, commensurate with age and use. Minor chip to periphery of head. Otherwise, great with light earthen deposits in recessed areas.
