South America, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 19th century CE. A matching pair of brass slipper stirrups in the shape of a leather boot, the tip pointed and slightly upturned, the surface even ribbed like the creases in the leather. The upper around the strap opening is decorated with a rope lacing pattern and tassels and a scalloped rim for the foot opening. The Spanish introduced horses to the Americas, as well as the fancy tack and for the equestrian owners, and this slipper style is often referred to as Conquistador stirrups. Size: 11" L x 4" W x 5" H (27.9 cm x 10.2 cm x 12.7 cm)
