Spanish Colonial, probably Guatemala or Mexico, ca. middle 19th century CE. Adorable and inspirational wooden nicho holding a representation of the baby Jesus. Rectangular box sitting upon an integral plinth, angled roof with spooled "bell-tower" and arched glass door. Baby Jesus is carved wood with heavy layers of pink, red, and black paint, sitting upon a metal rod. Size: 7" L x 10.875" W x 18" H (17.8 cm x 27.6 cm x 45.7 cm)

Nichos such as this were usually placed in the home as part of the Christian faith, which often combined itself with some of the Pre-Columbian beliefs that still permeate this region.
