Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A compact tool of devotion, this Tibetan bronze tsa tsa mold reflects the practical spirituality of Himalayan Buddhism, where sacred images were multiplied through repeated acts of making. Such molds were used to form tsa tsa - votive tablets pressed from clay or earth and offered as expressions of merit, prayer, and remembrance. The mold is cast in bronze and shaped as a rounded triangular plaque, with a raised relief on the interior and a flat reverse. The design features a symmetrical arrangement of vegetal scrolls and clustered fruit motifs, likely grapes or berries, symbols associated with abundance, fertility, and auspicious continuity. A textured band along the lower edge anchors the composition and suggests a stylized base. Pressed repeatedly by hand, molds like this produced countless offerings destined for shrines, stupas, walls, and sacred landscapes. Size: 0.8" L x 5.5" W x 5.6" H (2 cm x 14 cm x 14.2 cm)
