Description:

Native American, Northwest Coast, Tlingit peoples, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A central part of a harpoon, composed of three thin, sharply serrated deer antler arrows attached with leather cord to a wooden socket. These were made to sit near the upper center of a full harpoon, used to snag on the flesh of the animal caught by the initial thrust of the harpoon - generally a seal - and fasten it to the hunters' kayak. Size: 1.75" W x 6.5" H (4.4 cm x 16.5 cm); 7.6" H (19.3 cm) on included custom stand.
