Description:

South America, Uruguay, ca. 1829 to 1906 CE. An attractive nickel silver saddle stirrup known as an estribo de campana or bell stirrup, featuring a sizable foot platform adorned with the relief image of the old Uruguayan coat of arms on each side. A pair of slender arms rise up from opposite ends of the platform, culminating in a half circle-shaped buckle strap. The first Uruguayan Coat of Arms was adopted in 1829 and was ornamented with multiple Uruguayan flags, weapons, and various elements of commerce on each side, as seen here. In 1906, however, the design was simplified by law, eliminating all ornaments and standardizing the design. Size: 3.7" L x 5.8" W x 8.3" H (9.4 cm x 14.7 cm x 21.1 cm)
