Description:

**Originally Listed At $800**

Oceania, Vanuatu, ca. 19th century CE. A shallow wooden dish made for a festival in the abstract form of a turtle. The dish has a raised, thin rim with a flat lip around each elongated end and two projecting tabs that jut outward from the tip of each elongated end. These presumably aided in carrying the heavy dish, which is made from a dark, mahogany-like wood. Festival dishes like this would have been used during massive gatherings honoring the gods. Size: 14.4" W x 32.75" H (36.6 cm x 83.2 cm); 34.6" H (87.9 cm) on included custom stand.
