North America, United States, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A fine pair of hand-carved wood and well used walking canes, one painted as a "candy cane" and the other has a bird finial handle. The bird cane has a silky-smooth patina and a slightly knotty shaft - the bird handle resembles a slender rooster or a road runner bird. Painted stripes on the other cane evokes the Christmastide cheer of peppermint stick candies. Size (bird cane): 36" L x 6.5" W (91.4 cm x 16.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
