Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A dazzling pair of hoop earrings - each formed from 91 to 97% gold, which is up to over 23 karats! The first and larger features an annular shape adorned with an elegant clasp that wraps around each opposite end and 3 areas of incised linear decoration. Alternatively, the other adornment displays a torque form with petite knobs at each finial. Adornments like this would be worn by Roman ladies as indicators of wealth and heightened status. Two spectacular examples of ancient Roman jewelry! Size of largest: 1.78" W x 1.53" H (4.5 cm x 3.9 cm); gold quality: 91% to 97% (equivalent to 22K+); total weight: 13.6 grams
