Egypt, Coptic culture, ca. 200 to 800 CE. A lovely pair of natural cotton textile fragments constructed with vibrantly-dyed threads. First is a brown rectangular panel featuring an abstract bird with a blue head, one circular eye, a petite beak, and a backwards-curving body with squat serrations, all mounted atop a modern, cream-hued fabric panel. The largest panel is circular in form and has a golden-yellow outer circle, a red inner circle with yellow foot prints, and a central dark-blue disc adorned with abstract foliate motifs that surround a petite red circle. Size of largest (circular): 3.375" Diameter (8.6 cm)

  • Condition: Both pieces are fragments of larger textile compositions. Rectangular fragment is sewn to a modern, cream-hued fabric panel. Both pieces have loosening and light fraying to some fibers, with light staining and fading to original colors, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation of pigments throughout.
