Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 200 CE; Michoacan, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A compelling group of three Pre-Columbian West Mexican pottery standing figures displaying distinct regional styles and adornments. The smallest example, attributed to the Chupicuaro culture, wears a loincloth with a headdress and earrings, while the two larger Michoacan figures are adorned with earrings, elaborate headdresses, and necklaces but are otherwise nude, one male and one female. The male figure features stippled shoulders interpreted as ceremonial scarification, a visual marker that may signify status or ritual identity within West Mexican societies. Size of larger: 1.8" W x 4.3" H (4.6 cm x 10.9 cm)
