Description:

Cecilia Mayr (Brazilian, b. 1955). "Landscape of Colores #A12" and "Primitivo No. P25" mixed media paintings on paper, n.d. Both have artist's monogram in lower right and are signed and titled beneath images. Bursting with color and rhythmic geometry, these two mixed media paintings by Brazilian-born artist Cecilia Mayr showcase her signature fusion of modern abstraction and visual storytelling. "Primitivo No. P25" is a patchwork of pattern and movement - swirling terracotta spirals, citrusy green dots, deep blue triangles, and warm ochre waves collide in crisp sections like a stylized quilt of natural forms and ancestral motifs. In contrast, "Landscape of Colors #A12" reimagines urban architecture with playful distortion - rooftops, signs, and rows of windows stretch across a surreal streetscape where color is not descriptive, but declarative. Size of painting (both the same): 9" W x 9" H (22.9 cm x 22.9 cm); of frame: 21.5" W x 23" H (54.6 cm x 58.4 cm)

These two compositions reflect the hybrid visual language that defines Mayr's practice - a legacy of comic art precision, European travel, and the sunbaked palettes of both Brazil and the American Southwest. She approaches each surface as a meditative field, balancing graphic clarity with intuitive color play. Whether recalling architecture, textiles, or landscapes, her works transcend any singular place or narrative, instead creating realms of visual rhythm, symbolic geometry, and joyful abstraction.
