Dustin Lyon (American, b. 1951). "Crossing the South Fork" gouache, ca. 2003. Signed by the artist on lower right. A stunning composition by American artist Dustin Lyon depicting a Native American on horseback, wearing indigenous dress and leading two other horses across the south fork of a river. Evergreen trees line the river's edge, and steep cliffs rise beyond. Lyon has an uncanny ability of transporting the viewer back in time with his serene imagery and suggested historical narratives. What's more, his use of gouache, an underappreciated medium, brings out the brilliance of light and color in his compositions. A stunning piece set in a gorgeous custom frame.
