East Asia, China, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A lovely shell and brass cylindrical pomander jar that is hand-carved and pierced across the entire surface of the shell. The base is capped by a brass plate and the lid is covered with a brass lip. The hollowed interior is filled with dozens of scented gray resin incense pellets and the sweet scent wafts through the pierced sides. The lid opens to allow ease of entry/exit and could be refilled with potpourri scent of your choice! The brass base is engraved with cursive script that is partially legible as "Pomander."
