Description:

Native American / First Nations, Northwestern United States or Canada, Inuit, Aleut, or Yupik people, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A pair of traditional style ulu knives with iron blades and a handle made of wood, the other from deer antler. The blades on both are curved with pointed tips to facilitate a rocking motion when cutting or chopping that conveniently enabled single handed use. The antler grip is attached via two short steel rods, and the shorter wood grip is riveted directly to the tang of the blade. Size (antler ulu): 4.5" L x 5.5" W (11.4 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
