Description:

Native American / First Nations, Northwestern United States or Canada, Inuit, Yupik, or Aleut people, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine steel and wood knife known as an ulu upon a whale bone sharpener that acts as a stand. The blade is curved with a wooden U-shaped handle and flared tips. The shape facilitate a rocking motion when cutting or chopping that conveniently enabled single handed use. Ulus came in different sizes and served many purposes - used for scraping hides, chopping food, and/or shaping ice blocks. Size: 3" L x 6" W (7.6 cm x 15.2 cm); 3.5" H (8.9 cm) on included custom stand.
