North America, Mexico, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful plaque, hand-carved from greenstone, that depicts the right-facing bust of a stylized anthropomorphic figure. The attractive bust features a figure with a heavy-lidded eye, a bulbous nose, full lips, and a spool-adorned ear that is hunched over as if sneaking up on someone. He wears a sizable lizard atop his finely combed coiffure, and the lizard's tail drapes down beneath the figure's one bent arm. Plaques like this perhaps pay homage to the rulers and people of the great Maya civilization that shaped the cultural landscape of modern-day Mexico and Central America. Size: 3.2" W x 4.1" H (8.1 cm x 10.4 cm); 7.2" H (18.3 cm) on included custom stand.
