Description:

Northern Africa, Morocco, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely steel koummya with a slightly curved blade. The handle is made from carved bone, likely mammalian (yak or ox), with a crescent-shaped hammered brass pommel and ovoid guard. The blade has two offset beveled edges, with a short blade edge on the exterior curve and a longer blade edge on the interior curve. The sheath is crafted from two curved brass panels with floral motifs and wooden paneled interior, with two perforated brass loops with suspension rings, and a hexagonal brass bulb on the bottom end. Size with sheath: 16.5" L (41.9 cm).
