Description:

West Africa, Burkina Faso, Mossi people, ca. mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden figure of a standing woman, her body composed of chunky geometric forms, with triangular breasts, a round face, planar face, and a dramatic, double-sided coiffure. The face and body are marked by incised scarification lines, most notably those diagonally down the cheeks, but also visible on the stomach, chest, and breasts. These would have been indications of rank and kin group. Size: 6.15" W x 21.35" H (15.6 cm x 54.2 cm); 22.5" H (57.2 cm) on included custom stand.
