Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ndengese (Dengese) people, ca. mid-20th century CE. This is a carved palm wood wine cup. The angular face that forms the cup rises from a circular base. The face has slender facial features and a high, wide forehead, with a deep widow's peak of black hair and small but pronounced ears. The face has scarification marks carved at the sides of the eyes and the entire piece has been painted two tones, brown and ochre. Size: 5.5" L x 4.75" W x 8.5" H (14 cm x 12.1 cm x 21.6 cm)
