Description:

West Africa, Nigeria or Cameroon, Verre people, ca. mid-20th century CE. A charming cast-brass bottle, with an integral suspension loop on the neck and a petite conical foot. The compressed, circular body is textured to appear as if formed from concentric wire circles that are decorated with additional concentric wires arranged in hemispherical shapes, granulated spheres, and twisted rope wires long the periphery. This bottle was probably used to store snuff or tobacco, carried on the owner's belt via the loop and capped by a leather stopper. Size: 4.5" L x 2.25" W (11.4 cm x 5.7 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
