Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Haida or Tlingit culture, ca. 1930s CE. A beautiful totem pole replete with zoomorphic and anthropomorphic figures, hand-carved from finely-grained red cedar. The totem pole is attached to a separate wooden base via a metal screw. The intriguing motif of this pole (from top to bottom) displays a large-winged bat; a seated human holding the body of perhaps a child upside-down; a petite rodent-like mammal; a long-beaked pelican; a downward-facing whale; and a standing owl. Each figure boasts a pair of applied hemispherical eyes with painted pupils that imbue them with a lifelike quality. A great totemic example from the Pacific Northwest Coast! Size: 1.625" W x 19.875" H (4.1 cm x 50.5 cm)
