Native American, Southwestern United States, Hopi, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A hand-carved wood, yarn, and fur kachina doll in the form of an eagle dancer. The costume consists of a knee length carved skirt with a leather belt, yarn boot tassels, outstretched arms with the separate wing panels attached via yarn, and around the beaked head is a ruff of brown wooly fur. The eagle kachina dancer is the celestial messenger and a symbol of strength and protection. Size: 12" L x 4" W x 9.5" H (30.5 cm x 10.2 cm x 24.1 cm)
