Description:

First Nations, Northern Canada, Inuit, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A whale bone and soapstone sculpture depicting a mother and child figure with implements for butchering and hauling meat beside them. Next to the figures is a slab with an ulu knife carved into the top, a sled before them, a raised vessel, and a seal on its back- the stomach opened to reveal the innards. The bone base is signed "ADAMIE" with indiscernible numbers below. Size: 8" L x 4.2" W x 4" H (20.3 cm x 10.7 cm x 10.2 cm)
