**Originally Listed At $350**

Africa, Kenya, Turkana peoples, ca. 20th century CE. An excellent carved wooden head rest of elegant form, featuring two slender legs, curved inwards, and a bowed top. Naturally adorned in a woodgrain of warm tan and chocolate brown hues, this intriguing example is supported by a singular wooden beam wrapped in leather straps and inserted via an aperture half way up each leg. This fascinating piece was used to elevate one's head when sleeping in order to protect elaborately woven coiffures. Size: 9.1" W x 7" H (23.1 cm x 17.8 cm)

Provenance: private USA collection, collected with late husband Edward S. Ross, with the California Academy of Sciences in the 1970s and 1980s
