Mexico, early to mid-20th century CE. This is a brightly painted wooden figure of Salome (Herodia), the daughter of Herod who demanded the head of John the Baptist. His head lies at her feet, bloody, while she extends her hands. Her dress appears much more traditionally Mexican than biblical, and her crown is made of cut tin. Size: 4.75" L x 5" W x 12" H (12.1 cm x 12.7 cm x 30.5 cm)
