Native American / First Nations, northern Canada, Inuit, ca. 1950s CE. A delightful deep grey and grey-green stone carving of a seal, its body elongated as if it is in the act of swimming through an Arctic sea. The front legs, widened into flippers, are carved in relief against the underside of the body, while the tail is folded neatly and swept out behind the animal's long form. The surface is polished to a matte sheen. Size: 9.7" L x 11.85" W x 2.7" H (24.6 cm x 30.1 cm x 6.9 cm)
