Description:

Central Asia, Nepal, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A broad sheet-brass bowl formed with a slightly concave base, rounded walls, and a thin rim that surrounds the deep basin. In Nepalese and Tibetan prayer ceremonies, bowls like this are smoothly and continuously rubbed around the rim with a hard striker or 'singing tool' made from metal or wood. The constant vibrations in the bowl create a meditative humming sound that allows for thoughtful contemplation and intense concentration. Size: 7.375" W x 3.4" H (18.7 cm x 8.6 cm).
