Description:

North America, Pacific Northwest Coast, ca. 20th century CE. A striking dagger featuring a hilt with a classic Pacific Northwest motif. Using deer bone, it is carved in the form of a bear face on one concave side; the inwardly-curved back is grooved but otherwise undecorated. The bear head is surmounted by a bird who peeps out between the bear's large ears. Abalone shell, which flashes with a silvery rainbow iridescence as it moves, has been inlaid to form the eyes of both animals and borders on top and bottom of the hilt. The weapon also features a hide-wrapped handle and a hand wrought steel blade with four grooves. Size: 2.3" W x 19.45" H (5.8 cm x 49.4 cm)
