Description:

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Middle Sepik River, Washkuk region, Kwoma peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden ritual figure, known as a "yina," used during the Yam-harvest festival. The figure has a lengthy pole-form body, a recessed ovoid face with openwork eyes and mouth, a plateaued brow, and a phalliform nose with pierced nostrils meant to hold additional ornamentation. Size: 9" W x 27.25" H (22.9 cm x 69.2 cm); 28" H (71.1 cm) on included custom stand.
