Description:

South America, Peru, ca. 1920 to 1930 CE. A fabulous textile apron panel composed of tightly-woven natural cotton fibers in a palette of vibrant colors. While the top portion is a section of turquoise-colored velvet, the lower panel displays a plethora of intricately embroidered shapes and forms. The main decorative element is a depiction of Saint George riding atop his white steed and killing the dragon he is so famous for slaying. Dozens of sequins, birds, flowers, and feathers surround the saintly figure, giving this densely-adorned apron a burst of stylistic panache. Size: 24" W x 29.5" H (61 cm x 74.9 cm).
