Description:

Papua New Guinea, probably Massim region, 20th century CE. This is a wooden staff, handle portion, carved like a face with a huge mouth full of square, closely-set teeth. The teeth are clamped on something cylindrical. The eyes are wide and staring and filled in with shell. Towards the top of the finial is a frog-like shape; then it curves back on itself to form a long, ovoid loop. Comes with custom stand. Size: 3" W x 15.8" H (7.6 cm x 40.1 cm)
