Papua New Guinea, mid-20th century CE. This is a lovely ancestor head carved from wood on long neck with a wide base. It has a large oval shape and high relief eyes, with an openwork bridge as its nose. Smaller heads decorate it atop and below the main face. Size: 22.75" L (57.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex Collection of Will Barnet, (b. 1925) an American artist known for his paintings, watercolors, drawings, and prints depicting casual scenes of daily life and in transcendent dreamlike worlds. A longtime resident of the National Arts Club, Barnet died in New York City on November 13, 2012, at the age of 101.
