Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A group of 3 hand-built pottery figures of characteristically flat forms. The first figure stands with splayed feet and presents perky breasts and an elongated head while holding a conical vessel behind her right shoulder. The second figure bears several cicatrices on her shoulders, a knee-length skirt, a necklace with 'shell' beads, and an incised backswept coiffure. The tallest figure presents nude with negative resist stripes fronting her thighs and hips and holds both arms together atop her abdomen. Size of largest: 3.3" W x 7.375" H (8.4 cm x 18.7 cm)

  • Condition: Restoration to left arm of figure holding jar, and repair and restoration to second figure; tallest figure is intact and very good. Each figure has light encrustations and abrasions, fading to pigment where applicable, and softening to some finer details. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
