Pre-Columbian, South America, Colombia to Ecuador, Narino Highlands, Capuli / Narino culture, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A group of three hand-built terracotta vessels, each exemplifying the refined ceramic traditions of the Capuli and Narino peoples. The largest bowl, raised on a pedestal base, is finished in soft red slip with mineral deposits from long burial. A smaller conical bowl displays painted geometric motifs in dark pigment over a burnished red-orange surface, characteristic of Narino design. Completing the group is a tripod bowl with pointed legs, each decorated with painted striping and finished with a burnished surface; the hollow legs contain small pellets that transform the vessel into a functional rattle. Size of largest: 7.5" W x 4" H (19 cm x 10.2 cm)

- Condition: Tripod rattle vessel is intact, has some fading to motifs, with nice root marks and mineral encrustations. Rattles still emit some sound. Smallest vessel is intact with some fading to pigments. Largest vessel has losses to the rim as shown, with mineral and earthen encrustations.
