Description:

Western Europe, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely trio of carnelian intaglios, each hand-carved with the bust of a figure from Classical mythology. Drilled with a lateral suspension hole, the largest intaglio is ovoid and features the bearded head of Jupiter or Neptune facing right with a trident on one side a thunderbolt on the other. Next, the rectangular intaglio displays an ovoid tondo of Hercules facing left wearing the hide of the Nemean lion. Last, the circular stone presents Minerva wearing a crested Corinthian helmet and also facing left. Size of largest (Jupiter / Neptune): 0.9" L x 0.7" W (2.3 cm x 1.8 cm)
