Description:

Europe, Neoclassical, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A fine gathering of 3 stone intaglios. Hand-carved from crimson-hued jasper, the first is of circular form and features the image of a bearded man in profile facing a column and a classically shaped vessel to the left. The second example is formed from cream-hued agate and boasts an ovoid form. The piece is incised with a left-facing male in profile displaying a petite face, tonsure hair, and a short bead. Last, the carnelian intaglio showcases a translucent shade of scarlet and an octagonal form. This piece presents the depiction of a winged female, perhaps a victory, standing contrapposto and facing left. The nude woman appears to hold a slender staff. Size (of largest): 0.5" in diameter (1.3 cm)
