Description:

Ancient Near East, Canaanite, Late Bronze Age, ca. 1550 to 1200 BCE; Holy Land, Iron Age, ca. 1200 to 586 BCE; Greece, Cypro-Geometric period, ca. 1050 to 750 BCE. A well-balanced group of five ancient pottery vessels representing three cultural traditions across the Late Bronze and Iron Age Mediterranean world. Included are three Holy Land Iron Age pitchers, each globular in form with narrow spouts and loop handles. These utilitarian vessels once served for pouring and storing liquids such as oil or wine, their simple yet sturdy construction emblematic of daily life in the Levant during the early first millennium BCE. Accompanying them is a Canaanite Late Bronze Age handled jar, distinguished by its rounded body, short neck, and practical twin handles. Such jars, often used for storage and transport, are closely associated with the flourishing of trade in the Eastern Mediterranean during the second millennium BCE. Size of largest (pitcher): 6" L x 5.7" W x 5.1" H (15.2 cm x 14.5 cm x 13 cm)

The group is completed by a Greek Cypro-Geometric jar, notable for its lack of handles and its balanced, ovoid form. Produced on the island of Cyprus during a transitional period marked by renewed maritime networks, vessels of this type embody the synthesis of Greek and Near Eastern ceramic traditions. Together, these five vessels chart a trajectory of cultural exchange and daily function, linking Canaanite, Levantine, and Cypriot traditions through the enduring medium of clay.
