Louis Agassiz Fuertes (American, 1874-1927); Sherman Foote Denton (American, 1856-1937); John Livezy Ridgway (American, 1859-1947). Five prints of various species of birds by three prominent illustrators, all signed in the plate. Ornithologist and artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes was among the most prolific American bird illustrators. He created thousands of paintings and sketches of birds from life. Sherman Foote Denton was a naturalist, artist, world traveler, collector, author, and inventor. His passion for natural history encompassed not only birds, but also fish, butterflies and other insects, fossils, freshwater pearls, and gems. John Livezy Ridgway was an American naturalist illustrator who worked as a draftsman for the US Geological Survey, the Carnegie Institution of Washington, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and the California Institute of Technology. Lower Figure, Phoebe about 2/3 Natural Size" by Fuertes; "Upper Figure, Golden-Crowned Kinglet / Lower Figure, Ruby-Crowned Kinglet / Left-Hand Figure, Brown Creeper / Natural Size" by Fuertes; and "Spruce Grouse (Dendragapus Canadensis)" by Ridgway.
