Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Aztec /Tlatilco / Michoacan / Chupicuaro, ca. 300 BCE to 1500 CE. An ensemble of ancient Mesoamerican artifacts, comprising six hand-formed pottery figures and one carved ceramic spindle whorl. The stylized human forms are rendered in various regional styles - some nude, others adorned with distinctive headdresses, body paint, or ornamental details. These expressive figurines exhibit regional diversity and serve as windows into pre-Columbian ritual, domestic, or funerary practices. Included is a smoothly shaped ceramic spindle whorl, etched with geometric motifs, likely used in ancient textile production. Together, the collection offers a compelling snapshot of artistic and cultural life across Mesoamerica, reflecting both spiritual and utilitarian functions. Each piece displays age-consistent mineral deposits and wear from use and burial. Size of largest figure: 2.8" L x 1.75" W (7.1 cm x 4.4 cm)
