Egypt, Coptic Culture, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A framed textile fragment with an ochre yellow plain weave and a centered panel of white and black threads. The fibers are likely cotton or wool, possibly a mix of the two, creating horizontal registers of abstract motifs comprised of curvilinear shapes and dancing figures. The panel is shown within a modern display frame. Size (textile): 6.5" L x 3" W (16.5 cm x 7.6 cm); (frame): 15.75" L x 12.75" W (40 cm x 32.4 cm)
