Description:

Roman, North African, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. A wonderful collection of 6 terra sigillata pottery fragments: a female head in the round, a relief goat, a relief fish, an impressed lion, an incised tondo of a male bust, and the last with incised tondos of a bird and a snake. This type of pottery is known as African Terra Sigillata, referring to the method used to seal the red slip onto the pottery during the kilning process. These objects were mold made and traded far and wide. Size of largest (lion): 2.9" W x 3" H (7.4 cm x 7.6 cm); of frame: 13.5" W x 13.5" H (34.3 cm x 34.3 cm)
