Description:

Native American, North America, Middle Archaic to Classic, ca. 2500 BCE to 1650 CE (4500 to 350 BP). An impressive ensemble of 73 hand-knapped stone arrowheads, known as "bird points" for their miniature scale, boasting a variety of stemmed, bifurcated, and lanceolate forms in varying hues of white, cream, caramel, butterscotch, black, and gray. Though they all exemplify expert workmanship, the bifurcated points are especially well made as evidenced by the deep notches that adorn their blades. Petite points like these are colloquially called "bird points" but experimental archaeology has shown that they could easily have been used for hunting large game like deer - birds were much easier to capture with nets. Size (largest point): 1.2" L x 0.7" W (3 cm x 1.8 cm); (frame): 18.9" L x 12.9" W (48 cm x 32.8 cm)
