Description:

**Originally Listed At $350**

Ancient Seas, Devonian to Cretaceous, ca. 409 to 66 million years ago. A spectacular collection of 8 ammonite fossils that have pyritized and formed an opalescent surface on the exterior. Each shell is cut and polished to show off the interior chambers, the septa walls are golden pyrite and the recessed chambers on some have formed glittering druzy crystals known as vugs. In almost all mollusks the mineral aragonite was usually part of the shell’s composition, this is the same mineral that creates nacre / mother of pearl. When the ammonites fossilized the aragonite formed the pearlescent / opalescent shimmer that we see on some of the exteriors. The natural chemistry and the intricate process of fossilization over millions of years accentuates the mesmerizing spiral pattern found in ammonite shells - the spiral harmoniously aligns with the Fibonacci sequence. These could even be transformed into exquisite pieces of jewelry for those who appreciate nature's artistry! Size of largest: 2.55" Diameter x 0.55" W (6.5 cm x 1.4 cm); smallest: 0.63" Diameter (1.6 cm)
