Ancient Near East, Fatimid Dynasty, ca. 8th to 11th century CE. A fine cast-brass terminal attachment. The body boasts the stylized visage of a lion with ovoid eyes, cupped ears, a petite nose, and a bulbous chin, all in the foreground of a flowing mane. The terminal has a pair of pierced tabs which protrude off the lower edge of the hollow body and enable it to be attached for a decorative presentation. Fine green and brown patina cover the entire composition, though areas of the original golden-brown brass color are still visible in scattered areas. Size: 2.4" L x 1.625" W x 1.25" H (6.1 cm x 4.1 cm x 3.2 cm).
