Description:

**Originally Listed At $650**

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, Central / Classic Javanese Period, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. A stunning pair of copper alloy earrings covered in 53.56% to 59.7% (equivalent to 12K+ to 14K+) gold foil with a simple but elegant omega shape. The thick ring has slightly flared and flattened terminal ends that face inward, nearly touching. The body narrows slightly at the apex but is still quite thick since ears were often artificially stretched to accommodate these larger ornaments. These earrings are a simplified form of the mamuli ear ornaments that represented uteruses and fertility, and a similar type known as lingling-o are popular in the Philippines. The ancient Javanese people were known for their proficiency in high-quality gold craftsmanship and created lovely works of art to be worn by its wealthiest people as exemplified by this pair! Size of each (both are relatively similar): 0.87" L x 0.65" W (2.2 cm x 1.7 cm); 2.25" H (5.7 cm) on included custom stand; gold quality: 53.56% to 59.7% (equivalent to 12K+ to 14K+); weight: 11.5 grams
