Aage Frode Fersing (Danish, 1914-1999). "Yellow House Provence" oil on canvas, 1959. Signed and dated at lower right. A wonderful. painting by Danish artist Aage Fersing depicting a lone woman walking down a cobblestone street in Provence beside a stone garden wall. A beautiful yellow house rising in the background against a light blue sky, framed by leafy deciduous trees and vines. All is rendered in loose, expressive brushstrokes and vibrant colors. The painting is set in a custom frame with a suspension wire on verso for display. Size of painting: 25.5" W x 31.5" H (64.8 cm x 80 cm); of frame: 28.5" W x 34.5" H (72.4 cm x 87.6 cm)
Aage Fersing was Danish yet spent most of his career in Paris, marrying a French woman, and lived there the rest of his life. His daughter, Ingrid, carried on the art tradition and owned an art gallery for many years in Paris, featuring both French and Danish Modern Art. He came to Paris as a young man after the War in 1945.. The Brooklyn Museum has a Rodin bronze sculpture that he cast in the 1960s, and he also illustrated several books in the 1960s. In addition to being a painter, he too became an art dealer.
